On a 195 m² plot in the urban fabric of Thessaloniki, the owner requested the design of two identical but independent houses for his children. The design challenge was to ensure equality in terms of quality, space distribution, and functionality, while adhering to urban planning regulations.
The houses were designed with standardized floor plans, with the ground floor dedicated to living spaces. The living room is located at the front façade of the building, adjacent to the street, while the kitchen is positioned at the rear, leading to the backyard. On the first floor, the sleeping areas and bathrooms are placed.
In terms of volume, the two houses are distinguished by their sloped roofs and a common design language, with significant differences that make each unit unique. The main front façade includes an indentation that creates a parking space on the ground floor and a shared balcony for the two bedrooms on the upper floor.
At the rear façade, the building volume steps back, creating a shared balcony for the bedrooms and bathrooms. Externally, materials such as exposed concrete and metallic railings and frames in a blue-grey shade were used, providing a modern aesthetic while respecting the urban scale.

The study focuses on a residence design on a sloping plot. The plot’s defining features—steep slope, orientation towards the sea, and two access points from the road network—guide the design approach.
The main design principle is to organize the spaces in a way that enhances privacy while maximizing the connection to the views. The residence consists of two main levels and a third level accommodating auxiliary spaces, a closed parking area, and an independent guest apartment. The building’s mass is treated as a unified volume that follows the terrain’s slope, with intentional volumetric shifts and level changes to define the scale of the residence.

Access to the residence is from the southern side, via a specially designed atrium that enhances the sense of entry and privacy. The upper level contains the resting areas, which open toward the view, atrium, and accessible green roofs. The intermediate level hosts the living spaces (living room, kitchen, dining area), arranged to function as both independent areas and a cohesive whole. The lowest level sits above the road, allowing the guest apartment to benefit from unobstructed views and a separate entrance. The levels are connected via an internal staircase, with an alternative external access route along the western side of the plot, addressing the various usage scenarios.
The surrounding space and the green roofs serve as an extension of the residence, while simultaneously introducing a new scale to the overall massing, softening the feeling of the steep slope and enhancing the microclimate.

This specific project is a case study for the extension of a residence located in the outskirts of Kavala. The need for new, functional spaces created several design challenges that involved both the expansion and the management of the existing stone house, which was already on the plot.
The main challenge was to merge the old with the modern, harmonizing, uniting and highlighting the old building with the new. The new building volume is positioned parallel to the existing stone building and is connected via a glass corridor, functioning as an invisible joint, skilfully uniting the old with the new. This glass corridor creates an atrium between the two building volumes, creating a sense that the new building is at vicinity but also at a distance from the old one. The new addition is situated within the greenery, with the stone building serving as a backdrop, showcasing the natural beauty of the location.
For the existing volume, it was proposed to display the masonry by carefully re-exposing the stone to point up the stone mass. The careful reconstruction of the existing building includes the preservation of the wooden roof with the addition of steel tie rod trusses. New openings were created in the stone volume to better accommodate the current building functions, and a new typology of wooden frames was established, as a common design tool used in both buildings.
The functions of the residence were redefined and rearranged, creating a new living experience, emerging the outdoor living with the indoor. The main entrance of the residence frames the view towards the outdoor landscape, through the glass corridor and the large openings of the new building. The living area is situated at a lower level in the stone building creating a sense of a hug, while the kitchen and dining area are located in the continuation of the ground level, in the new volume, with a direct connection to the greenery.
In the new building volume is also located the owner’s ceramics workshop, which communicates unhindered with the rest of residence but also operates separately with an independent external entrance. The resting, more private area is located on the first level of the stone volume, while part of it extends through the glass corridor to the roof of the new volume, incorporating the natural landscape into the upper level. The rearrangement of building functions allows for better connection with the outdoor space.
The exterior space was carefully designed to integrate harmoniously with the residence, using elements such as stone, corten, green components, and water, creating an environment that meets modern needs and expectations. The rich greenery and outdoor spaces offer an oasis of tranquillity and relaxation.

The design is for two identical cottages in Chanioti, Halkidiki, on a plot with an existing building, on the edge of the seashore. The possibility of preserving the sea view for the existing building determined the linear and longitudinal development of the functions of the houses, leaving free space between them. Furthermore, their massing was arranged in such a way that they look like two light volumes, especially on the southern side bordering the existing building. For this reason, the elongated ground floor is separated in material from the rest of the building volume using stone, giving the feeling of a solid base, on which a white volume with openings is placed that includes the floor and the attic.

The dwellings share a common typology of floor plan. The entrance to the house is from the ground floor, under the covered space created by the volume of the floor and attic. The ground floor receives the common functions of the house, the living room, kitchen, bathroom, a guest room and a small storage room. The ground floor spaces internally discharge to different parts of the exterior surroundings, creating separate discharge spaces for each function and emphasizing the sense of integration of the inside with the outside. The floor and the attic are where the rest of the bedrooms and bathrooms of the house are located. Covered semi-outdoor spaces act as a transition from inside to outside, protecting from the sun during the summer months. The choice and placement of the openings of the houses have been managed in such a way that the houses can take advantage of the views, natural light and ventilation, while at the same time maintaining privacy between the buildings, so that there is no direct visual contact.

The configurations of the exterior spaces relate on the one hand to the independent entrances of the residences, as well as to outdoor lounges, barbecue areas with outdoor dining areas, and relaxation areas, offering the user of the residence many different summer experiences on each level and each space individually.

The 120 m2 residence is located in Aroni area, just a few minutes outside of the city of Chania and it was studied to serve the needs of a four member family. Our main goal was the creation of a one floor roof residence along with a small church.

The partial vicinity of the building with the street, the orientation of the land and the dense vegetation are aligned with the owners’ desires and lead the design towards an agreement of the building’s volume, the squares, the pathways and the natural environment, where introversion and extroversion are being rotated.

The creation of a sequence of four different levels, in use and in texture and the relationship between them, are contributing to the transition from the North to the South and more specifically to the private residence, using references from the scale of a small settlement.

The parking area along with the barbeque area are located on the upper level, from the North towards the South. The church along with the churchyard are being developed on the second level. Later on, the residence is visible, along with the “protected area” of the exterior dining area while the lower level provides the expansion of the residence towards the South and the exterior living areas.

These levels are connected through a bold axis while smaller cobblestone paths are leading to smaller gardens and secondary exterior uses. One of the main features of this route is its clear continuity through the building’s volume adding to its degradation into the living and sleeping areas, meeting later on the exterior area.

These two building units are being developed perpendicular to each other. This happens, due to the fact that the living areas enjoy facing the South, whereas the exterior living room, enjoys the direct access towards the East, with the fenced yard of the dining room and the access towards the West patio and the garden. The bedrooms’ orientation allows the light coming from the South to sink in, and provides direct access to the exterior areas and the view.

One of the highlights of the building are the two high pitched roofs; the roof covering the living areas extends alongside and catalyzes their limits making it the exterior living room of the building.

The design of the church follows a different pattern. Monolithic with curves and small openings, it becomes part of this wandering while it contributes along with the residence, to the creation of the internal – like a hug – yard.

Stone, clay surfaces (kourasani) and wood, were used in order to blend the structured and natural environment into a harmonious whole.
