On a 195 m² plot in the urban fabric of Thessaloniki, the owner requested the design of two identical but independent houses for his children. The design challenge was to ensure equality in terms of quality, space distribution, and functionality, while adhering to urban planning regulations.
The houses were designed with standardized floor plans, with the ground floor dedicated to living spaces. The living room is located at the front façade of the building, adjacent to the street, while the kitchen is positioned at the rear, leading to the backyard. On the first floor, the sleeping areas and bathrooms are placed.
In terms of volume, the two houses are distinguished by their sloped roofs and a common design language, with significant differences that make each unit unique. The main front façade includes an indentation that creates a parking space on the ground floor and a shared balcony for the two bedrooms on the upper floor.
At the rear façade, the building volume steps back, creating a shared balcony for the bedrooms and bathrooms. Externally, materials such as exposed concrete and metallic railings and frames in a blue-grey shade were used, providing a modern aesthetic while respecting the urban scale.

The study focuses on a residence design on a sloping plot. The plot’s defining features—steep slope, orientation towards the sea, and two access points from the road network—guide the design approach.
The main design principle is to organize the spaces in a way that enhances privacy while maximizing the connection to the views. The residence consists of two main levels and a third level accommodating auxiliary spaces, a closed parking area, and an independent guest apartment. The building’s mass is treated as a unified volume that follows the terrain’s slope, with intentional volumetric shifts and level changes to define the scale of the residence.

Access to the residence is from the southern side, via a specially designed atrium that enhances the sense of entry and privacy. The upper level contains the resting areas, which open toward the view, atrium, and accessible green roofs. The intermediate level hosts the living spaces (living room, kitchen, dining area), arranged to function as both independent areas and a cohesive whole. The lowest level sits above the road, allowing the guest apartment to benefit from unobstructed views and a separate entrance. The levels are connected via an internal staircase, with an alternative external access route along the western side of the plot, addressing the various usage scenarios.
The surrounding space and the green roofs serve as an extension of the residence, while simultaneously introducing a new scale to the overall massing, softening the feeling of the steep slope and enhancing the microclimate.

This specific project is a case study for the extension of a residence located in the outskirts of Kavala. The need for new, functional spaces created several design challenges that involved both the expansion and the management of the existing stone house, which was already on the plot.
The main challenge was to merge the old with the modern, harmonizing, uniting and highlighting the old building with the new. The new building volume is positioned parallel to the existing stone building and is connected via a glass corridor, functioning as an invisible joint, skilfully uniting the old with the new. This glass corridor creates an atrium between the two building volumes, creating a sense that the new building is at vicinity but also at a distance from the old one. The new addition is situated within the greenery, with the stone building serving as a backdrop, showcasing the natural beauty of the location.
For the existing volume, it was proposed to display the masonry by carefully re-exposing the stone to point up the stone mass. The careful reconstruction of the existing building includes the preservation of the wooden roof with the addition of steel tie rod trusses. New openings were created in the stone volume to better accommodate the current building functions, and a new typology of wooden frames was established, as a common design tool used in both buildings.
The functions of the residence were redefined and rearranged, creating a new living experience, emerging the outdoor living with the indoor. The main entrance of the residence frames the view towards the outdoor landscape, through the glass corridor and the large openings of the new building. The living area is situated at a lower level in the stone building creating a sense of a hug, while the kitchen and dining area are located in the continuation of the ground level, in the new volume, with a direct connection to the greenery.
In the new building volume is also located the owner’s ceramics workshop, which communicates unhindered with the rest of residence but also operates separately with an independent external entrance. The resting, more private area is located on the first level of the stone volume, while part of it extends through the glass corridor to the roof of the new volume, incorporating the natural landscape into the upper level. The rearrangement of building functions allows for better connection with the outdoor space.
The exterior space was carefully designed to integrate harmoniously with the residence, using elements such as stone, corten, green components, and water, creating an environment that meets modern needs and expectations. The rich greenery and outdoor spaces offer an oasis of tranquillity and relaxation.

This hotel is situated in Kefalos town in Kos island in Greece. The comprehensive renovation of the boho hotel involveσ a thorough redesign and enhancement of its aesthetic and functional structure.

The removal of external staircases and the removal of arches, from the existing volumes that defined the balconies of the rooms redefined the views. The redesign offers privacy to each balcony, while at the same time maximizing, in the respective rooms, the sea view. The main entrance is accented with timber beam frames, which define the movement within, enhancing the effortless flow from inside to outside and vice versa.

The incorporation of wooden pergolas, stone walls and earthy warm toned plasters alter the building’s facade creating a visual identity for the hotel. Natural elements such as sand, gravel and greenery play a pivotal role in elevating the overall ambiance and ensuring a seamless integration with the coastal surrounding.

Exiting the main building a metallic structure with a wattle pergola accommodates the breakfast area reinforcing the indoor outdoor feeling and the smooth transition in the pool. The pool area undergoes a transformation, featuring a harmonious blend of wooden elements and earthy finishes to create an inviting and tranquil space for guests. Between the pool and the beach bar an addition level with sunbeds and umbrellas is constructed connecting the hotel’s main building, the pool and the beach bar.

The beach bar, a focal point of leisure and socializing, is conceptualized as a vibrant extension of the landscape. The impressive wooden pergola in combination with rattan furniture and earth-toned fabrics, define a new resting area by the Aegean sea. Wooden decking is placed strategically composing a smooth transition throughout the outdoor area of the hotel leading either to the sea or to the two bungalows positioned on either side of the hotel.

Throughout the design process, attention to detail is paramount, ensuring that all the elements seamlessly merged with the hotel’s coastal setting. The utilization of sand and gravel in landscaping further accentuates the connection between the property and its natural surroundings, creating a cohesive, functional and visually appealing environment.

The design is for two identical cottages in Chanioti, Halkidiki, on a plot with an existing building, on the edge of the seashore. The possibility of preserving the sea view for the existing building determined the linear and longitudinal development of the functions of the houses, leaving free space between them. Furthermore, their massing was arranged in such a way that they look like two light volumes, especially on the southern side bordering the existing building. For this reason, the elongated ground floor is separated in material from the rest of the building volume using stone, giving the feeling of a solid base, on which a white volume with openings is placed that includes the floor and the attic.

The dwellings share a common typology of floor plan. The entrance to the house is from the ground floor, under the covered space created by the volume of the floor and attic. The ground floor receives the common functions of the house, the living room, kitchen, bathroom, a guest room and a small storage room. The ground floor spaces internally discharge to different parts of the exterior surroundings, creating separate discharge spaces for each function and emphasizing the sense of integration of the inside with the outside. The floor and the attic are where the rest of the bedrooms and bathrooms of the house are located. Covered semi-outdoor spaces act as a transition from inside to outside, protecting from the sun during the summer months. The choice and placement of the openings of the houses have been managed in such a way that the houses can take advantage of the views, natural light and ventilation, while at the same time maintaining privacy between the buildings, so that there is no direct visual contact.

The configurations of the exterior spaces relate on the one hand to the independent entrances of the residences, as well as to outdoor lounges, barbecue areas with outdoor dining areas, and relaxation areas, offering the user of the residence many different summer experiences on each level and each space individually.

This is a study of the facades, interiors and exteriors of one of the most central and historic hotels of Kos town, a landmark due to its location in front of the island’s marina. It concerns the 5-star Kos Divine Hotel and Suites, of 4000 sq. m., that operates all year round, member of the Divine Hotels group.

The design axes were based on the modernization of the building using subtle manipulations. On the facades, the proposal initially moved by creating an imposing entrance with a linear character, removing the balustrades of the balconies and replacing them with glass, removing architectural elements, such as arches on the facade, which were used in a decorative way in the past, creating new openings and emphasizing parts of the facade with a new rhythm, through color and light. In the interior public spaces respectively, it was proposed to remove decorative plaster elements and old suspended ceilings, designing new ceilings, where lighting plays an important role in the organization and orientation of the main spaces. In the exterior spaces, shaded areas were created with green and water elements, creating places of coolness and tranquility. In the pool area, it was proposed to keep the shape of the pool clean by removing decorative elements and adding a floating seating area. The roof garden is a new addition to the hotel, featuring a large linear table as well as other outdoor lounges, creating a clean structure and a new attraction for both users and residents with unobstructed views of the island’s marina

More specifically, the internal public area was redesigned, the reception area, breakfast room, bar, as well as the VIP lounge and gym areas. The existing load-bearing structure of the building, in several places came to organize the above functions. From the new entrance, the reception area can be seen, which uses an existing column, on which the service counter is supported. The use of black and white contributes to the feeling of an imposing and floating volume. More generally in the design, black is used as a script to define a key function (reception, bar, direction to suspended ceilings) and white to lighten the space and create a clean feel. The use of wood in the wall coverings and the wooden details in the space come to create a warm-intimate atmosphere in the given space. Still, metal partitions and doors with striped glass are used, which allow light to enter internally while separating the spaces from each other.

In terms of room design, the compositional principles followed were similar to those of the rest of the hotel. Clean forms of special wooden structures, earthy tones, black metallic elements and hidden linear lighting that enhance the clean design lines, give the rooms a sense of relaxation and tranquility.

Finally, lighting was used as a design tool in the overall composition. Externally, the edges of the building are emphasized around the perimeter, making the volume of the building distinct and imposing. Internally, light defines directions while at points it comes in and highlights uses and functions.

The 120 m2 residence is located in Aroni area, just a few minutes outside of the city of Chania and it was studied to serve the needs of a four member family. Our main goal was the creation of a one floor roof residence along with a small church.

The partial vicinity of the building with the street, the orientation of the land and the dense vegetation are aligned with the owners’ desires and lead the design towards an agreement of the building’s volume, the squares, the pathways and the natural environment, where introversion and extroversion are being rotated.

The creation of a sequence of four different levels, in use and in texture and the relationship between them, are contributing to the transition from the North to the South and more specifically to the private residence, using references from the scale of a small settlement.

The parking area along with the barbeque area are located on the upper level, from the North towards the South. The church along with the churchyard are being developed on the second level. Later on, the residence is visible, along with the “protected area” of the exterior dining area while the lower level provides the expansion of the residence towards the South and the exterior living areas.

These levels are connected through a bold axis while smaller cobblestone paths are leading to smaller gardens and secondary exterior uses. One of the main features of this route is its clear continuity through the building’s volume adding to its degradation into the living and sleeping areas, meeting later on the exterior area.

These two building units are being developed perpendicular to each other. This happens, due to the fact that the living areas enjoy facing the South, whereas the exterior living room, enjoys the direct access towards the East, with the fenced yard of the dining room and the access towards the West patio and the garden. The bedrooms’ orientation allows the light coming from the South to sink in, and provides direct access to the exterior areas and the view.

One of the highlights of the building are the two high pitched roofs; the roof covering the living areas extends alongside and catalyzes their limits making it the exterior living room of the building.

The design of the church follows a different pattern. Monolithic with curves and small openings, it becomes part of this wandering while it contributes along with the residence, to the creation of the internal – like a hug – yard.

Stone, clay surfaces (kourasani) and wood, were used in order to blend the structured and natural environment into a harmonious whole.

The proposal concerns the participation in the open complex architectural competition “Welfare Infrastructure and Neighborhood Park in the Municipality of Chania”, where the design of a crèche, a day care center for the elderly and a neighborhood park was requested.

The central idea of the proposal draws inspiration from the way children instinctively use space, and more specifically the schoolyard, as a dynamic field of creation, communication and development. The courtyard is translated as a nucleus for the birth of experiences in space, shaping its public image through individual and collective practices. The proposal is approached anthropocentrically by creating a core that activates and unifies the social character of the structures with the neighborhood, forming a stage where everyone can perform and produce a unique atmosphere in it, creating a bridge of communication and interaction.

The building set is approached as boundaries that allow the influx of movement inside the site, interrupting the contact where clear inward function takes place and creating intermediate thresholds of coexistence organized around a reference point. In this way, privacy is scaled without losing a sense of wholeness, both conceptually and design-wise. Based on the above, a centrifugal structure is organized by articulating a sequence of “courtyards”: the park, the nursery courtyard and the entrance plaza, upon which the sense of private and public is scaled at each scale.

In relation to the building complex, two buildings are proposed because the functions of the welfare structures concern two different age groups, which have basic differences in terms of their activities and needs for relaxation. It is proposed that the activity of the infants be protected and operate internally in relation to the other functions of the nursery, without being cut off from the whole. On the other hand, the activity of the elderly is based on extroversion, socialization and tranquility. The entrances of the two buildings are located in a common square of different levels. In it, urban facilities can be used by the users of the structures and the residents, enhancing the interaction and communication between them. In the southern part of the site, the park is developed, which is designed to serve some organized facilities for the residents of the neighborhood, such as urban gardens with aromatic plants and herbs offer the experience of engaging in gardening and organized space for children’s activities for physical, mental development and socialization. The nursery is organized around the courtyard, as a reference point for the children, but which also functions as the field of connection of all the above-mentioned open spaces, stimulating the sense of integration of the structures with the neighborhood within the plot. More specifically, the entrance of the nursery is located on the axis of the courtyards achieving their visual connection. Its functions are organized on the ground floor in a “Π” shape with a peripheral arcade, taking advantage of the southern orientation and the conceptual reference to the centrifugal element of the design, the courtyard. The courtyard can become part of the park, through the wet element that separates and at the same time unifies, allowing the life of the building to be united with the public, expanding its boundaries and offering an additional quality to children, that of participating on a larger scale, adapting it to their needs and enabling them to get involved and participate in the shaping of the public image.

Particular emphasis has been placed on bioclimatic and child-centered design. Bioclimatically, the proposal was approached through the creation of the building volume in Π with an arcade and large openings in the south for lighting and the exploitation of solar heat in winter, the use of a water element in the south for cooling in summer,
planting according to orientation, using evergreen trees in the north and deciduous trees in the south. Planting, has also been used as a tool to organize spaces for children through their seasonality, fruitfulness and symbolism.
