This project called for the redesign of a gynecology clinic due to a co-location. A key design parameter was the functional spatial adequacy of the examination room and its relationship to the two offices, as well as the creation of a comfortable waiting area.
The existing office floor plan is a typical apartment floor plan with a corridor leading to separate rooms. The time-saving nature of the work, due to the sensitive nature of the profession, contributed to the choice of minor interventions regarding setbacks and building work, trying to create a functional structure while still rendering a contemporary atmosphere for the new office. Part of the corridor is removed and another part is attached to the rooms, creating an anteroom. A reception area is placed at the entrance and a waiting area at the back. The three rooms in a row are rearranged, placing the examination room in the main room and the dispensaries on either side of it, also creating a separate entrance for staff to prepare the patient.
Warm and earthy tones have been used, giving the space a sense of calm. The offices have been treated in a similar way, creating a horizontal zone around the perimeter of the office with a change of color. Special joinery comes to take over the uses of offices, storage areas and hidden lighting points, yielding a subtle luxury. The lighting in the waiting area comes in and accentuates the reception as well as the entrances to the office-examination room.
